The Italian National Bone Marrow Donor Registry (IBMDR), is the central coordination office for bone marrow donor searches in accordance with the “Agreement between the Health Department and Regions” – 5 October 2006- n° 2.637. Acting as the hub between transplant centers, search centers, donor centers and other donor registries across the world, the IBMDR facilitates the interaction of all involved, from searching for suitable donors to transporting donated cells.
The IBMDR has the primary goal to find a suitable HLA matched unrelated donor to patients with leukemia or other diseases of the blood-forming system who need a stem cell donation
In particular the IBMDR acting as the hub has the following functions:
- coordinates and manages HPC UD searches from adult donors and/or CBU from national/international banks and registries;
- manages the exchange of communications and information between the subjects involved in the search procedures;
- guarantees and certifies the procedures of HPC search , from the histocompatibility tests to the HPC collection and transport to the unit transplant;
- collects, registers and certifies all costs related to the HPC search and provision, in Italy and abroad, taking charge of the related administrative aspects and paying the below mentioned fees.
